!! Questions answered by this recipe

How do I include a file that I've uploaded (with [=Attach:=])?\\
How do I include a file which is somewhere else on the same webserver?

!!Description
(:Description Include an uploaded (attached) text/HTML file into a PmWiki page.:){$Description}

The includeupload script
provides [@(:includeupload:)@] markup, which enables files which
have been uploaded (with [=Attach:=]) to be included directly into wiki
pages. This can also include files which are under the DOCUMENT_ROOT
of the webserver.

By default, this includes text and HTML files only. Text files are enclosed
in <pre> tags, and HTML files have their body content extracted and
displayed inside a <div>. It does strip out the <head> tags, it only includes the <body>
content.
Other file types can be added (see below).

HTML files (and files converted to HTML) will also have relative
links inside them converted to absolute links (href links and image files).

!!!Warning

It assumes that if someone is trusted enough to upload a file, then they aren't going to include malicious JavaScript. There's a reason why uploads are disabled by default...

In other words, if the uploaded file includes JavaScript, nice or nasty (or any other flavour of nice and nasty), this recipe will send it right through to the user. As such, it's recommended for sites that tightly control who is allowed to upload.

!!!Including Attached Files

To include a file uploaded with [=Attach:=], just give the name of the file.

[@
(:includeupload myfile.txt:)

(:includeupload myfile2.html:)
@]

This can also include files attached to other groups, in the same way
that [=Attach:=] can. For example:

[@(:includeupload SomeGroup./thatfile.html:)@]

Attached files are checked against the (new) 'includeupload' authorization
level; to be precise, display of an uploaded file is allowed if the user is
authorized for the page/group that the file is associated with. The
'includeupload' authorization defaults to being the same as 'read'
authorization.

[@$HandleAuth['includeupload'] = 'read';@]

!!!Including Website Files

To include a file which resides under the DOCUMENT_ROOT of the webserver,
give the path relative to the DOCUMENT_ROOT of the webserver. The path
must start with '/' to distinguish it from attached files.

[@
(:includeupload /path/relative/to/web/root/file.txt:)
@]

So, for example, if the file's URL would normally be

[=http://www.example.com/foo/bar.txt=]

then the directive would be

[@
(:includeupload /foo/bar.txt:)
@]

By default, this uses URL fopen to open such files, so as to
comply with the webserver's security. However, url_fopen is not
always enabled in PHP installations. If this is the case, then
you need to set

[@$IncludeUploadUrlFopenEnabled = 0;@]

in your local/config.php file.
When [=$IncludeUploadUrlFopenEnabled=] is false, then this will
attempt to read the file directly from the filesystem, bypassing
the webserver.

If you want to disable reading of webserver files altogether, then
* disable url_fopen in your PHP configuration and
* set [=$IncludeUploadUrlFopenEnabled = 1;=]

This will ensure that includeupload cannot use URL fopen, and will not
try to read from the filesystem.

!!!Conversion

A text-to-HTML converter can be called for text files, by setting
$IncludeUploadToHtmlCmd['txt'] to a suitable command. For example

[@
$IncludeUploadToHtmlCmd['txt'] = '/usr/bin/txt2html --xhtml';

$IncludeUploadToHtmlCmd['txt'] = '/usr/bin/asciidoc -o -';
@]

This command will be passed a filename, and the output is expected to
be given on standard output. The output of this command will have the
body content extracted as with a HTML file.

This mechanism can be used, in addition, to display files of different
types, so long as you have a command that will convert that file
to HTML in standard output. The type is determined either by the
filename extension, or overridden by the type= argument.

This can also be used to give different arguments to the text
conversion command, by defining a different "type" and setting
the type of that file with the type= argument.
For example, supposing I have a poem in mypoem.txt
Make a special 'poem' type, with different arguments:

[@
$IncludeUploadToHtmlCmd['poem'] = '/usr/bin/txt2html --xhtml --short_line_length=80';
@]

Then give it the poem type:

[@
(:includeupload type=poem mypoem.txt:)
@]

!!!Additional Options

Additional options:
:class:the CSS class to give the enclosing container. The default class is 'includeup'.\\
[@(:includeupload class=foo bar.html:)@]

!!!Styling included files

You can change the appearance of the included file section by adding suitable CSS commands to your
pub/css/local.css file (or to pub/css/Group.css for a particular group). See PmWiki/WikiStyles for more information.

Here's an example:

[@
.includeup {
	background: #ddddee;
	border: black 1px dotted;
	padding: 0.5em;
}
@]

Remember that the "class=" option above enables you to give a different CSS class
(and thus a different CSS style) to different included files if you so wish.

!!!Activation

To activate this script, copy it into the cookbook/ directory, then add
the following line to your local/config.php:

[@
include_once("$FarmD/cookbook/includeupload.php");
@]

!! Notes

IWFM (it works for me).

Large files will take longer to load.

The relative-to-absolute URL conversion looks for href=" and src=" to find the URLs to convert, so if you find that some URLs aren't being converted, check the source, in case the links don't match that pattern.

* (2008-01-05)
**Fixed bug with relative anchor links
**added ~HansB's suggested escape-html-chars for plain text includes
* (2007-05-27) Added relative-to-absolute URL conversion.
* (2007-05-08)
**Fixed security problems:
*** replaced txt2html= option with type= option
*** use url_fopen to conform to Apache permissions
*** added 'includeupload' authorization level
**The type= option also enables files of other types to be used.
* (2007-03-16) Corrected bug with path parsing, thanks to ~SteP.
* (2006-11-19) Added class=, txt2html= options, and enabled upload of any file on the webserver, not just Attached files.
* (2006-11-02) Initial version
