Requirements

  1. PHP 5.3 or Higher

  2. MySQL 5 or higher

Installation

1 Install files

Copy this application onto your web server. The following are instructions using GIT through shell on your server.

$ git clone https://github.com/shannah/social-network-server.git
$ cd social-network-server
$ ant
$ cp conf.ini-sample conf.ini

The last call to ant will clone Xataface into the xataface subdirectory.

2 Create MySQL Database

Create an empty MySQL database, and create a user for the database with full permissions granted.

3 Update conf.ini file

Modify the settings in the conf.ini file to match the information for the database you created in step 2. You should only need to modify the [_database] section.

[_database]
  host=localhost
  name=<database name>
  user=<mysql_username>
  password=<mysql_user_password>

4 Point Browser to index.php file

If everything worked correctly, you’ll just receive a message saying "The application is installed correctly"

Setting the Client Project to Use This Server

The SocialClient class has a hard-coded static member variable URL defined thusly:

private static String URL = "http://localhost/social_network";

Change the URL to point to your application.
