nzbVR

nzbVR is currently in alpha, some functionality does not exist (full iphone ui) and there are a few bugs

A fast automatic downloader for usenet reports, handles scheduled tv series downloads, movies and generic searches through Newzbin. nzbVR also provides a simple interface for searching Newzbin and sending reports straight to SABnzbd. nzbVR is written with PHP5 and requires a web server (like Apache2 or Nginx) with PHP5.2+ installed and configured.

Like other episode downloaders like hellaVCR or EpisodeButler, nzbVR allows you to easily schedule watchers for new episodes (it can even help downloading the missing ones in your collection).

nzbVR uses web API services from Newzbin, TVRage and TVDB, as well as consuming API's through your local network from applications like SABnzbd and XBMC.

Configuration

Everything can be configured through the nzbVR web interface.

If you plan on installing nzbVR in a sub-directory rather than through a virtual host you will need to visit your installation so a settings.xml file is generated. You can then manually edit data/settings.xml and change the <base_url> tag value to /url/to/nzbvr/. This also applies if you have no mod-rewrite available but you will need to change the <base_url> tag value to /url/to/nzbvr/index.php/ (make sure to include the trailing slash). The base url setting can be changed from the web interface but on first launch the default url will be incorrect and the dynamic content will fail to load.

Url Rewrite

Apache2

The Apache re-write rules exist in the .htaccess file that sits in the root of the nzbVR directory, if your setup picks up .htaccess files automatically you wont need to make any changes.

RewriteEngine On

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d

RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php/$1 [L,QSA]

Nginx

# change the /nzbvr to the sub-directory or remove if its a virtual host
if (!-d $request_filename) {
        rewrite /nzbvr/. /nzbvr/index.php last;
}

Watchers

nzbVR uses a collection of generic watchers to define a Newzbin search, a watcher can set a name, format, language, source and category this is then used to automatically create Newzbin search queries using the v3 API. You can use the web interface to create watchers to monitor for anything on Newzbin or NZBMatrix.

By default nzbVR defines 2 special types of watchers;

Series Watchers

Series's watcher's can be setup to watch for new episodes for a particular tv series, it works with daily shows (as long as your scheduling nzbVR to check at least once every 24 hours). nzbVR also pulls in extra data for a tv series so that you can browse the episode lists and download missing episodes easily. When you first add a series, nzbVR will check for new episodes that are being aired after the creation date of the series in nzbVR.

Movie Watchers

Movie watcher's are used to check for upcoming movies automatically, since watchers allow the setting of format and source you can create movie watchers to automatically download movies in various formats as they become available).

Scheduling

You can schedule nzbVR to automatically check and update watchers through cron or launchctl (on OSX only). This allows nzbVR to automatically check for and download new content from watchers without any user input as well as keeping the information up to date.

Unlike other episode downloads, nzbVR provides 2 different tasks that can be scheduled rather than just the 1. The tasks are split because the update task does not need to be ran every time you check for new downloads, instead this can be safely scheduled to every 12 hours, thus greatly improving performance of the check task.

Check and Download Task

The check task tells nzbVR to check for and download new content from watchers. You should not set this task to schedule lower than every 15 minutes, otherwise your Newzbin account might end up banned.

php /path/to/nzvbr/check.php

Update Information Task

The update task will make nzbVR get the latest information about watchers from external series (TVRage, TheTVDB and TheMovieDB) and store the information locally. As the update task processes quite a lot of information and the information is only relevant every day or so, you can safely schedule the task to run every 12 hours or so.

php /path/to/nzbvr/update.php

Mac OS X / Launchctl

Under OS X the recommended method for running the scheduler is through launchd, there is a default plist in the extras directory that can be easily modified and enabled;

cd nzbvr

# Edit `extras/org.sixones.nzbvr.check.plist` (you need to set the absolute path to `nzbvr/check.php` and the username to run as)
mate extras/org.sixones.nzbvr.check.plist

# Edit `extras/org.sixones.nzbvr.update.plist` (you need to set the absolute path to `nzbvr/update.php` and the username to run as)
mate extras/org.sixones.nzbvr.update.plist

# Copy to `/Library/LaunchDaemons/`
sudo cp extras/org.sixones.nzbvr.check.plist /Library/LaunchDaemons/org.sixones.nzbvr.check.plist
sudo cp extras/org.sixones.nzbvr.update.plist /Library/LaunchDaemons/org.sixones.nzbvr.update.plist

# Enable
sudo launchctl load /Library/LaunchDaemons/org.sixones.nzbvr.check.plist
sudo launchctl load /Library/LaunchDaemons/org.sixones.nzbvr.update.plist

The default check task plist is set to run every 15 minutes (900 seconds), its not recommended to set below this. The update task has a default schedule of 12 hours (43200 seconds), there isn't any reason to set this lower.
